Clearance
Garden clearance in Norwich
City Garden Services clears overgrown gardens across Norwich, cutting back what has taken over and taking the green waste away, so the garden is ready for whatever comes next.
Back to a garden you can see
Gardens get away from people for all sorts of reasons. A busy year, a house bought after it stood empty, a rented home left untouched between tenants, or a relative's garden that has become too much. Brambles and ivy creep in, shrubs swallow the path, and the lawn disappears under long grass and weeds.
A garden clearance cuts all of that back to something manageable. We strim and cut down overgrowth, dig out brambles and self-sown saplings, cut back shrubs and hedges that have grown over paths, and bag up and remove the green waste. Once the ground is clear, you can see what is worth keeping and what needs doing.
Because the same team lays lawns, paving and fences, a clearance can also be the first stage of a bigger job. Clearing ground properly before a new lawn goes down makes a real difference to how it turns out.
Before you book
What to think about first
-
Anything to keep
Walk round first and mark plants, pots or features you want saved. Overgrown gardens often hide roses, bulbs and old paving worth keeping.
-
Nesting birds
It is an offence to damage an active bird's nest. Hedge and shrub clearance is best planned outside the main nesting season, roughly March to August, or checked carefully first.
-
Non-garden waste
Old furniture, building rubble, paint and electricals are not green waste. Tell us what is there so the right disposal can be arranged.
-
What comes next
If the cleared ground is going to be turfed, paved or fenced, say so. It changes how far down we clear and what we leave behind.
How a clearance works
- 1
Show us the garden
Photos from a few angles give us a good idea of the size of the job and what is in there.
- 2
Site visit
We check access, any hazards and what you want kept, and agree how far the clearance goes.
- 3
Free quote
The quote covers the cutting back, the clearing and the removal of the waste, in plain words.
- 4
Clear, remove and tidy
We work through the garden, take the waste away and leave the ground raked and the paths swept.
Worth knowing
Good to know
-
Check who takes your waste
Householders have a duty of care for their waste. Whoever removes it should be a registered waste carrier, which you can check on the Environment Agency's public register.
-
Japanese knotweed needs specialists
If you suspect knotweed, tell us before the visit. It must not go in ordinary green waste and needs specialist treatment.
-
Old sheds can hide asbestos
Some older shed and garage roofs contain asbestos cement sheets. They should be checked before anyone breaks them up.
-
Regrowth happens
Brambles and ivy regrow from roots left in the ground. Keeping on top of new shoots in the first season stops them taking hold again.
Do you take the garden waste away?
Yes. Taking the green waste away is part of the clearance, so you are not left with a pile of bags.
Can you clear a garden for a landlord or before a sale?
Yes. We can work with you or your agent to get a garden tidy and safe between tenants or before photos and viewings.
Will you remove tree stumps?
Small stumps and saplings can be dug out as part of a clearance. Large stumps may need a stump grinder, which we will talk through at the visit.
Can you clear the garden and then turf it?
Yes. Lawns are our main trade, so we can clear, prepare the ground and lay a new lawn as one job.
Do I need to be home?
Not always, as long as we can get into the garden and you have agreed what stays. We will confirm the plan with you before we start.
Do you clear rubbish as well as plants?
Tell us exactly what is there when you get in touch. Garden waste is straightforward, and other items may need separate disposal arrangements.
